Rising Up In Albany N.Y since 2003….

Back in 2000, a solo singer/guitarist with dreams of fronting an electric
band met a drummer returning to the skins after a long vacation. What they both
shared was an interest in rootsy music that lay on the boundary of rock, blues,
funk, folk and country. Peter Warren and Larry Smith were soon joined by Mark
Pietrafesa
on bass and the unit that would be MBU was formed.

It took several years of work and a few personnel changes
before a clear musical direction emerged. In late 2005 lead guitarist extraordinaire Chris Moore left to be replaced by the well-known Blues Noir veteran Chris Hammond on harmonica and guitar. Chris' blazing leads and expressive fills on harp plus his swing orientation have broadened MBU's range of musical styles and deepened our repertoire –and the proof is in our most recent setlist! Driving the train –and driving is putting it mildly –is our new drummer Tony Friello , also a long-time veteran of the local music scene whose enthusiasm and chops make this version of MBU the hardest-rocking one yet!

What's in a name?

It's April of 2003. PW is leaving the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage
Festival grounds to hop a shuttle bus back into the city. Flowing out of trash
barrels everywhere are the remains of mud bugs (crayfish for you scientific
types) that have been steamed, stewed, broiled, fricasseed, dismembered,
sucked clean….a true Mudbug Massacre. Warren thinks to himself that someday
there'll be a reckoning for this wanton slaughter, a turning of the tables, a revolt,
a…Mudbug Uprising.

There you have it, mon ami!
